The use of a GPS tracking system is only for legitimate purposes and the use of this service for unfair reasons is not allowed (under Law 3206/2003, as defined in Government Gazette 298/Α/23.12.2003).
The Data Protection Authority, recently, on terms and conditions, has given its «green light» Decision No 112/2012 on the use of geostationary devices, through assistance, to vulnerable groups of the population and to minors. The services allow the «subscriber» to know the geographical location of the wearer, which is small in size, may be in the form of a box or watch, includes a mobile telephony (GSM), a GPS positioning system, and panic button.
However, it should be emphasized that if the geologist and the subscriber carry different persons, «then the carrier should have been informed and consented to the processing of his or her personal data. For sensitive personal data, there must be the written consent of the wearer. In cases where the bearer is an adult and is devoid of legal capacity, the consent to the processing of his or her personal data is given in writing by the legal counselor. In cases where the bearer is a minor, then the consent of the parent’s parental care is required».
